Philia
Eight Wks.
When I set out to search for my blue rough girl, there were none available anywhere on the East Coast
(where my Collie family originates).  There were a
couple of tris, a sable, and a pending litter of sables, but
no blues.  When I called   Cathy Squire of Littlefield
Collies, she told me she had two blue girls, but neither
was available.  She was keeping them both.

One of those girls was Philia, the other was Gateway.
Philia came to Chekia two weeks later.  Three years later, Gateway became the mother of Lassey, who also came to Chekia.  I will always be grateful to Cathy for allowing both of these precious girls to come here!

Philia walked in to my life at five months of age, and said,
"I can do ANYTHING!  Just Try Me!"  and she was right!
She loved obedience and therapy work, could pull a
cart, had a great time in the show ring, enjoyed working
breed booths and rescue booths, took care of all
manner of "little ones", proved her herding instinct, and
even enjoyed a good movie and a bag of popcorn as
any great companion would!

Sired by Ch Tartanside Illumination C.D. and out of
Ch Raptorvale Country Dancing,  Philia came by both
her beauty and her intellect quite honestly.  Her father, Simon, a noteworthy show dog in the breed ring,
trained for and earned his obedience degree during
his retirement, proving the old adage about "old dogs"
and "new tricks" to be the fallacy we've long realized.
Her mom, Samantha, was Cathy's "perfect Collie". Like
her daughter, her attributes only begin with her beautiful
face!  When Philia was shown, the judges written
critiques offered comments like "great shoulder",
"beautiful movement", "lovely headpiece" and "very sound". The photograher, tho, was the one to note, "She's having a lot of fun today!"  Philia has a lot of fun
EVERY day!

While one of Philia's favorite activities was riding in
"her" van, vehicles were not always a source of enjoyment for her.  When she first arrived, I had a
station wagon, and for reasons known only to her, she
detested it.  It took her more than two years of
determined prodding (and a slow growing savings to
which she was oblivious!) to convince me to acquire a van "for her".  From the minute the van arrived on the property, the response to "Philia, do you want to go for
a ride?" changed from "Oh no, do I have
to -- Can I get out of this -- Where can I hide?"  to
"OPEN THE DOOR AND LET ME IN!!  YES! YES!
I WANT TO GO FOR A RIDE!!"  ....  and so she became
the official co pilot and chief navigator  on all van trips.
It' was only fitting.  With Philia at the helm, the journey i
was always exciting!  She will always hold a dear and
honored place in my heart.
